After a severe social media slump you may recall I decided to take a long hard look at my digital self. I didn’t do a digital detox, despite what the title suggests, but I did get rid of the social media platforms that just didn’t make me feel good. Which for me, was Facebook and Snapchat. I kept Twitter and Instagram, the former because I like it and use it for work and the latter because I intrinsically love it.
An Ode to Instagram
Instagram never makes me feel crappy, it often inspires me and makes me want to get out and take more pictures, better pictures. I follow lots of accounts, all varied, and I like the whole process, from the initial photo right through to editing, writing a caption and picking hashtags to go with it.
I have a small following, especially when you compare it to the amount of you allegedly reading this blog! But for every Instagram I post, I get a pretty decent amount of love — and to be honest, even if I didn’t, I would still LOVE using it. It’s just more my cup of tea. It doesn’t require me to put too much of myself out there…..at least not in a way I’m uncomfortable with anyway. I can flex my creative muscles and play around with things without feeling self conscious.
And even though the new algorithm is a ball ache for most, for me it hasn’t dampened my spirits because, well, I’m only a tiny ‘lil Instagrammer anyway. The benefits of being small, eh?
