Jordan - Honeymoon Part Deux

Back at the beginning of the year I posted about where I wanted to go in 2016, and one of those places is finally coming to fruition. With a brand new passport, devoid of any stamps I will be flexing my traveling muscles once more and travelling somewhere brand new. In May, I'm heading to my second new country of the year -- Jordan!

Those of you who know me will know that I am half Egyptian and actually used to live in Saudi Arabia when I was a wee dot, so I am particularly excited to be spending some time in the Middle East which I haven't visited since my Morocco holiday in 2006! God, that makes me feel SO OLD. Like, that trip was actually an adult grown up trip with my ex boyfriend so....yeah, that being 10 years ago is pretty hellish. I actually really want to head back to Morocco and perhaps do a little road trip around the country. Side note - if you've been and have any tips for me, please do share them in the comments!

So back to Jordan then. I am BEYOND excited to be flying there in less than a month and have some fairly rough plans of what I want to do when I'm there. Like most people when they arrive in Jordan it will be to the capital of Amman, before heading to Petra, Wadi Rum as well as the Dead Sea. We may or may not also try to fit in a little scuba diving trip in Aqaba which will be interesting for us both as the only diving we've done thus far is in the clear, calm and I guess, beginners waters in the Gulf of Thailand. I've heard mixed reviews about Aqaba though so we'll see.

Plans and Musings

I am very keen to eat all the food, and drink all the mint tea -- so it's thankful that bikini time will be rare (Jordan is a conservative country and covering up is recommended). I grew up eating Middle Eastern food but have minimal cooking skills, so I'll be eating Foul Medames (kind of a bean medley with olive oil) to my hearts content, Shawarma (yep, I loves me some kebab) and all the Arabic flatbread I can fit in.

Hiking is going to be high up on the list, and I'll be trekking in both Petra and Wadi Rum. I HATE camels, and haven't ridden on one since I was about two (true story, -- my first time to the Pyramids left me hating camels so I rode a donkey in the Sahara all day and refused to get off). I may make an exception and try to move past my active dislike of the disgusting, spitting demons but it's unlikely. I'm keen to ride an Arab horse though as they are my absolute faves!

Luxury at the Dead Sea is pretty much mandatory, as there really aren't any budget options around that neck of Jordan. Unless you are staying in one of the private hotels that have a stretch of the beach, you'll have to smother yourself in mud, wash it off in the salty Dead Sea and bugger off somewhere else. We quite fancy staying at a resort for a night and enjoying some spa time before we get the ubiquitous floating with a book shot.

Changing perceptions will be something I am keen to do in my blog posts when I come home as, aside from fellow bloggers, the question I have received when I tell people where i am going is "Is Jordan safe at the moment?".

A new airline will be tested en route -- as we bagged bargain flights with Turkish Airlines. I love flying and am super excited to try Turkish Airlines out. I am definitely going to be asking for a honeymoon upgrade too!

Until then, I'll be getting myself back on track fitness-wise - as I have been slacking a little of late -- with the help of Fitness by Lucy (not me, Lucy Mecklenburgh!), who reached out to me a few weeks ago and asked me to review their new workout & diet plans and write an honest review. Despite the fact that the only time I'll be on a beach in my bikini is at the Dead Sea covered in mud,  I still want to tone up and get fit again. So, I'll be testing out one of the plans and revealing all in my monthly newsletter next month (subscribe below to stay up to date).
