Why is my tundish leaking?

Why is my tundish leaking?

It is important to call a qualified boiler engineer if your tundish is dripping. This is a sign that either there is a fault with the pressure release valve or water pressure in the system is rising too high. In both cases a qualified engineer will need to inspect the system and resolve the problem.

How often does a Megaflo need recharging?

With just a handful of external controls, there is little to go wrong. However, the internal air gap needs recharging regularly. This is a reasonably straightforward process and should be carried out at least annually. An indication that the air gap needs charging is a visual warning via the Tundish.

What does a cold water expansion valve do?

The Expansion Control Valve (ECV) is designed to relieve the increase in pressure caused by the water expansion during the normal heating cycle. It is recommened that an ECV be fitted to the cold water supply line.

What should the pressure be on my Megaflow?

Megaflo – an unvented hot water cylinder The actual pressure in this type of hot water cylinder is normally about 3 bar, which is equivalent to a cold water tank being 30m above the tap for a heat-only system. The cold water is fed into the bottom of the tank at mains pressure.

Where does tundish drain to?

drain pipe
A tundish is used in many different appliances, not just heating systems. It can be found in air conditioning units. The condensate that is created by the unit needs to go somewhere. It is discharged to a drain pipe, which is why a tundish is required.

What is a tundish drain?

A tundish is a fitting installed on pipes to provide an air-gap and catch any drips caused by overflow. This in turn helps prevent unsanitary cross connection, water damage or spillage. However, tundishes are often overlooked as an unnecessary expense by plumbers during bathroom or laundry installation.

How long should a Megaflow last?

Megaflo cylinders are a great fit for homes with high hot water demand. There is a good warranty of 25 years for peace of mind, and the system as a whole pumps hot water efficiently to your hot water outlets – you won’t freeze in the shower if someone puts on the tap in another part of the house.

What controls the expansion valve?

Thermostatic Expansion Valve uses a valve mechanism to control the flow of liquid refrigerant into the evaporator coil. The flow is controlled by the pressure in the evaporator. This type of metering device is able to operate well when the load fluctuates and hence is suitable for use in air conditioning system.

What to do about water dripping through the tundish?

A while ago we noticed cold water dripping through the tundish. We replaced the Pressure relief valve & that temporarily cured the problem. Then within a week or so, we noticed hot water dripping through the tundish. The plumber changed the valve attached to side of water tank & that also temporarily cured the problem.

What does the tundish on the pressure reducing valve mean?

The tundish is there to “warn” you that something is amiss – As said above you need a G3 engineer to assess! The pressure reducing valve black arrow is at 0.6 bar and the red arrow is at 1.2 bar. The red line on the PRV is at 1.2 bar.

When should I replace my tundish valve?

If it is leaking and the system is not over pressured, then the valve is in danger of failing completely. It will need to be replaced. Checking your tundish regularly should be part of your basic home maintenance.
