This weeks Photo of the Week comes from beautiful Sri Lanka. The tiny little island we started our travels with two years ago stole our hearts. The people, the food (oh my god, so spicy…) and the insane driving all colluded to make one helluva holiday.
We spent a month in Sri Lanka, which is a really long time for somewhere so small — particularly as we really hadn’t hit our travelling stride. We stayed in each place for a pretty long time, and faltered when we didn’t like somewhere (Ella!) staying longer than we needed to.
Regardless, we had a gorgeous time there, and ignoring Ella, we liked everywhere we went. Galle, however, really bowled us over.
This photo is of the flag ceremony at Sunset. I captured these two officials pulling down the Sri Lankan flag carefully and ceremoniously before folding it up and saluting in reverence. This happens daily at the clock tower along the city wall, where Sri Lankan folk and tourists alikeplay cricket, people watch, snack on Waadi-Waadi and generally just chill.
